    Slate GL AXT1800 Setup & Troubleshooting: An initial Guide

    Slate (GL AXT1800) is a portable router that comes with an IPQ6000 1.2GHz quad-core processor and runs on OpenWrt. It’s a user-friendly device, easy to set up and carry as well. It has WiFi 6 dual band technology to offer maximum speed up to 1800 Mbps from total bandwidth. In addition to this the device has the capability to offer wireguard speed up to 550 mbps with three ethernet ports on a panel. Furthermore, it offers safe browsing with VPN Encryption.     You have two options to begin the configuration. First method to configure the device is by using a smartphone app. Second method is via web admin panel access. Both the methods are less time consuming, smooth and easy. You can choose any of them as per your convenience and complete the GL AXT1800 Setup.

    Initial Setup

    Prior to begin the setup you need to complete the initial steps to configure the device. It includes

    Turn On The Device Power

    Firstly, turn on the power by using the power adapter you get with the router device. Connect the adapter with the power plug to supply power. Also turn on the power from the power socket and from the device power button.

    Connect Slate Network With Client Device

    Once the slate device is started, you need to connect your client device with its network. To establish this connection, there are two ways. First method is by using an ethernet cable. Insert it in the router ethernet port and laptop/ computer’s ethernet port. Second method is by accessing wifi settings. Go to the wifi settings on your computer/ laptop/ mobile device. Search for “GL-AXT1800-XXX or GL-AXT1800-XXX-5G” network. Choose any of them to begin the GL AXT1800 Setup and use “Goodlife” as your default password to connect it.

    Web Setup

    • Use a computer/ laptop to access the web admin panel.
    • Go to a web browser and search for default IP “http://192.168.8.1/”
    • Thereafter you need to access the admin panel and for that you need to follow the screen.
    • Choose the language and then select next option
    • Afterwards create a password and hit submit option
    • Web panel will display, go to the internet option.
    • Choose the mode to connect the device to the internet.
    • Follow the on screen guide to finish the GL AXT1800 Setup.
    • In the end click on the Apply option and then check the new network.

    App Setup

    You can initiate the app based setup with mobile. First of all you need to download the “Gilnet app” from the store. Once you get the app, you can proceed with the setup through it. Launch the app to access the admin page. Select the language and then create a password for your admin access too. Thereafter go to the internet option to connect the internet with the device. There are four options to enable internet with the device ethernet, repeater, cellular and tethering. Opt any of these as per the availability and configure your device with the on app instructions. Remember to create a security key for your wireless connectivity to protect unauthorized access. At last choose the “Apply” option. Also test the new network once configuration is complete.

    Slate Troubleshooting Guide

    Several times we encounter trouble while configuring the Slate device. Also we can encounter problems with it later even when we are using it for a long time. This happens because of several different reasons. Exact reason for the error is hard to find. Further troubleshooting might help you in resolving the error including connectivity issue, no internet, slow internet speed etc.
    • Verify all the cables connected to the router device, in case any damaged or loose cable is there it may create issues. So, replace the cable if it is damaged.
    • Check internet connection from your host device. In case the issue is with the host network then you will not be able to resolve it on your own. Connect your service provider to get rid of the issue.
    • In addition to this you can try restarting your device to resolve temporary issues. Restarting process is very simple and will take only 5 minutes.
    • Furthermore, check for the firmware update. Sometimes outdated firmware of the device creates issues in the network. To resolve it you need to keep the device firmware up to date.
    • Lastly you can try resetting the device back to the factory settings. This will remove all the configuration that you have made. It will resolve the configuration error issue and many other type of problems.
