    Linksys Router Setup Requirements

For the setup, first collect all the package contents. Make sure each component is in the top-notch condition. In case it happens to be dysfunctional then replace it with the new one, otherwise the setup might fail.

Thereafter apart from the package contents, you require:

    • A smart gadget like smartphone, desktop or your tablet.
    • Next, a properly working power outlet.
    • Lastly, a well working modem.

    Perform A Factory Reset

In case you have already tried the Linksys router setup once but could not complete it successfully, then before proceeding with the fresh start it’s important to perform a factory reset. For a factory reset, first look for the reset key. It is usually present on the back panel of the router. Now fetch a paper clip or an object similar to it. Insert this pin into the reset hole. Following it gently push the knob and hold it for 8 to 10 seconds. As you release the pin, the factory reset completes.

    Linksys Router Setup Guidance

The setup steps are extremely simple and won’t take much time.

    Power On

First bring in the Linksys router in the same area as your modem. Now using an Ethernet wire, connect the modem and Linksys router together. Thereafter, with the help of the supplied power adapter, turn on the router. Also ensure the modem is powered on. Do not jump on to the next step, until the power LED on the router turns on. This might take up to a few seconds or a minute.

    ✓ Connect

Now fetch the smart gadget of your preference. For the Linksys router setup, you need to connect this gadget to the router. There are two alternatives for the same. You can choose any one as you feel comfortable with.

    • For a wireless connection, use the wifi network name and security key which is written on the router’s label.
    • Secondly if you want more direct and stable connectivity between the host device and the Linksys router, then use the ethernet wire.

    Access Admin Panel

Moving forward, on your host device open a web browser. For a smooth and uninterrupted Linksys router setup you need to make sure that the chosen browser is compatible. Additionally it should be free from caches and cookies as well it needs to be updated. You can use Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge as well.

Now move to the address field. In it enter http://myrouter.local. Press Enter. Alternatively you can use http://192.168.1.1.

    Follow The Prompts

In the previous step as soon as you press enter, you get access to the Linksys router setup wizard. Now agree to terms and conditions and thereafter tap Next.

Moving forward, assign the new network name and password to both the networks, that is, 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. If you want you can assign the same name to both the networks. Now tap on Next. Now it’s time to assign a new router password and hit Next. You’ll now get a summary of all the changes that you made, review these changes and if everything is as per your requirements then tap Save.

    Note:

If you do not want to agree to terms and conditions then you skip it by tapping on the Cancel option. Now you need to fill up the password which is admin. But remember, the next time you want to access the setup wizard you’ll need to perform the factory reset.

    Connect To The New Network.

Now using the new password, connect any of your devices to the router. After a successful connection tap on Next. Finally fill up your email id to register the router and again hit on Next. In case you do not want to register the product then you can also skip it. Finally tap on Done to finish the Linksys router setup

Troubleshooting Minor Linksys Router Setup Issues

Sometimes even after performing the setup steps properly, the router doesn’t work. So in case you are also the victim of the same, then try these simple troubleshooting methods.

    Power Cycle

To power cycle your Linksys router, you need to first disconnect it from the power outlet. Thereafter wait for as long as you can. Although it should not be less than a minute. Now plug it back in and wait for the LED on the router to stabilize properly.

Additionally, you can also power cycle the modem as well.

    ✓ Verify The Connections

Sometimes the router and the modem are not connected to the right ports, so verify it as well. The ethernet wire should be connected to the yellow ethernet port of the Linksys router. Additionally, you can try using a different device as sometimes the issue can also be device specific.

    Update The Firmware

In case everything is proper but still you are facing connectivity issues, then there are chances of pending firmware updates. So make sure the router is running on its latest version.

    Check For Physical Hindrances

You need to make sure that the nearby premises of the router are free from electrical and metal objects. As these objects tend to interfere with the router’s signals. Additionally, there shouldn’t be any physical barrier like a concrete or glass wall between the router and the modem.
